VNO ARRIVALS TERMINAL DESIGN COMPETITION

Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) announces all the architectural ideas for the future arrivals terminal of Vilnius Airport that were received and met the requirements of the tender submission.

All architectural ideas submitted to the competition, which meet the submission requirements and are still subject to verification, will be made publicly available from this week on the official competition website www.vnocompetition.lt and will be exhibited at the premises of the Lithuanian Architects’ Union (LAS).

“Today we are taking one of the first steps towards the new arrivals terminal at Vilnius Airport. We believe that the architectural teams will offer functional and efficiently integrated solutions for one of our most strategically important future projects. It is essential that the future terminal not only meets the highest standards of passenger comfort and airport process efficiency, but also integrates seamlessly into the overall infrastructure. This is a significant milestone for Lithuanian Airports to continue to systematically pursue the complete transformation of Vilnius Airport’s infrastructure,” says Simonas Bartkus, CEO of LTOU.

The aim of the architectural design competition was to create a new, functional design for the airport’s arrivals terminal, which would be integrated with the future Rail Baltica link, the existing new departures terminal and the reconstructed central square. The aim is to have the new arrivals terminal built by the end of 2028.

The projects will be judged by an international jury in the second half of April and the five best ideas will share a prize fund of €120,000.

The best idea for the new terminal proposed by the architects should be announced in the second half of May, after the jury’s vote count and the necessary checks on the submitted documents.

The competition entries will be judged by a special jury on qualitative criteria. The members of the jury will include Laura Kairienė (Chief Architect of Vilnius City), Mariia Grachova (architect, director of the Brussels office of Chapman & Taylor (UK)), Tom Holtmann (architect, partner and project manager at Nordic Office of Architecture (Norway)), Rolandas Palekas (architect, head of Paleko ARCH studija) and representatives of Lithuanian Airports.

The winner of the architectural competition will be invited to enter into open negotiations for the signing of a contract for the preparation of the working design of the terminal and its accesses.
